6 Ways to Stay Fit on a Budget

Investing in your health is one of the most important things you can do. But what are you to do when your health goals conflict with your budget goals?

First of all, DON’T throw in the towel.

There are plenty of ways to get or stay fit without spending your entire paycheck on the endeavor. Whether you’re a couch potato or a fitness fanatic, here are six ways you can stay fit on any budget.

1. Make Your Home a Gym

Gym memberships can get quite pricey but they certainly don’t have the monopoly on sweat. You can get plenty sweaty in the confines of your own home. There are plenty of resources that help you build at-home workouts, simply search them out on the internet and get ready to get sweaty.

2. Workout Outside

Similar to the at-home workout, outdoor fitness is a great alternative to the big box gyms. From running through neighborhoods to using playground structures to do some resistance training, the possibilities are truly endless.

3. Go Digital

There are millions of YouTube videos, covering any fitness routine you could ever dream up. From jazzercise to yoga to TRX – there’s a fitness channel that appeals to everyone. If you happen to have cable, many providers have on demand free workouts available at no extra cost

4. Sign Up for Sports

Organized sports that were such a big part of our younger years have slowly faded away but we think it’s time to bring them back! Chances are good your city (or a nearby one) has a recreation league for a variety of sports. You can sign up solo or grab some friends and start your own team and turn your workout into a fun group activity.

5. Dance Party

There’s something so simple and fun about cranking your favorite tunes and dancing in the comfort of your own living room. Streaming sites have ready-made playlists perfect for solo dance parties, or you can whip together one filled your favorite dancing tunes, and keep moving until the playlist is through.

6. Take Advantage of Your Workday

We spend a lot of time at work, and there are plenty of opportunities to fit in little workouts along the way. And if you’re worried about sweat, don’t fret! You don’t actually have to get sweaty to get in a great workout. Take the stairs, walk during your meetings or after lunch, or do some squats at your desk for an accessible and quick workout!

Fitness is not something that needs to be bought, there are plenty of ways you can stay fit without shelling out a ton of dough. Just get creative and make use of things around you and you’ll forget the gym (and have extra cash to boot) in no time!
