For work or pleasure, traveling can really throw a schedule into disorder.
From finding a routine to finding the space to get sweaty – the logistics of staying in shape while you travel can be difficult. Thankfully, difficult doesn’t equal impossible. Here are four easy fitness hacks that can keep your fitness goals on track as you crisscross the country (or globe), and may even provide some refreshing endorphins along the way.
1. Don’t Tie Yourself to the Gym
First things first, you do not need a gym to stay fit. There are plenty of body exercises that require absolutely no equipment. Using your own body weight for strength exercises and/or hitting the open pavement for some cardio can be done anywhere. Here are some great ideas for bodyweight moves to get you inspired (and sore).
2. Pack Thoughtfully
We’re sure you have your outfits and toiletries packed and ready to go, but what about your tennis shoes or gym clothes? Remembering to throw these in your suitcase will make you much more likely to actually fit in the workout. If you happen to forget, there are plenty of affordable options in most cities – your hotel can always point you in the right direction.
3. Stay Flexible
Chances are, you’re not going to be able to perfect anticipate every moment of your vacation. Taking advantage of any downtime is going to be your friend here. Thankfully, a great workout doesn’t have to take more than 30 minutes (try one of these HIIT workouts) so you’ll be on your way before you have time to say burpee!
4. Your Diet is Still Important
You cannot out-train a bad diet and this truth still applies in the magical world of vacations. This doesn’t mean you have to say no to that night out or a breakfast buffet, just be mindful when making your food and drink choices. Most importantly – one bad day will not ruin your diet so cut yourself some slack.
